V-DOSC system on Rumba Live

Rumba LiveRumba brought together a healthy variety of high-energy acts for two one day mini festivals. Jands Production Services supplied the largest V-DOSC system ever assembled in the southern hemisphere, which provided the 50,000-odd party goers the full Rumba experience.
Jands Production Services spec’ed a system based on
L-ACOUSTICS V-DOSC, and the systems long throw, even coverage characteristics shone through in the wide open spaces of two of Australia’s biggest arenas.

Bon Jovi Acoustic with V-DOSC and dV-DOSC

Man From Snowy RiverAs a lead up to Rumba 2002, and for the release of the Microsoft Xbox, Legendary rock act Bon Jovi played an acoustic set to an enthusiastic crowd in Darling Harbour’s Cockle Bay.
Jands Production Services provided a crew and system for the event that utilised the L-ACOUSTICS V-DOSC System on the floating barge while a set up of dV-DOSC towers were located on the land.
The excellent throw of the system ensured a full frequency coverage for all of the audience that witnessed this one off acoustic set from this famous arena rock act.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Rock Aussie Stadium

Red Hot Chili Peppers On the afternoon of Friday 29th November 2002, after being almost upstaged by torrential rain, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers performed at Sydney’s Aussie Stadium (formerly known as the Sydney Football Stadium) in Moore Park. Jands Production Services provided an L-ACOUSTICS System consisting of 48 V-DOSC, 18 dV-DOSC, 16 ARCS and 48 SB218 Sub cabinets. This resulted in the best sound production ever produced in the Stadium that, up until now, held a reputation as a venue with an acoustic nightmare for sound engineers. The V-DOSC was configured with 15 elements a side for the main left and right arrays, with 3 dV-DOSC boxes under hung for nearfill. On each side were 9 elements again with 3 underhung dV-DOSC elements. The ARCS cabinets were used as infill boxes.

John Farnham ‘The Last Time’ tent tour

John FarnhamOn November 5th, 2002, John Farnham embarked on a series of concerts that would see him perform in major Australian entertainment arenas and in his own 4,000-seater tent for the last time. imply titled ‘The Last Time’, the tour kicked off in Farnham’s hometown of Melbourne and toured capital cities and country towns across Australia, selling out 94 concerts to an audience totalling over 460,000 people. For eight months, ‘The Last Time’ tour packed 35 years of Farnham hits into a two and a half hour show.
The tent production received great reviews and the dV-DOSC System, supplied by Jands Production Services, provided excellent coverage. The system was configured ‘in the round’ using four arrays. Each array consisted of 9 dV-DOSC and 2 dV-SUBS powered by Crown MA5002 amplifiers. Four audio crew were supplied by JPS to do the entire eight month tour.

V-DOSC System Arrives in New Zealand

Big Day Out '03College Hill Productions of Auckland New Zealand recently hosted a presentation of L-ACOUSTICS WaveFront Sculpture Technology (WST) products to invited guests including leading New Zealand promoters, venue managers and audio industry professionals.
Jands Production Services, the V-DOSC Network Rental Partner, has established a relationship with College Hill to supply L-ACOUSTICS systems in New Zealand. College Hill, who have a well earned reputation for providing quality service and equipment will now be able to meet the demands for V-DOSC rental from both local and overseas productions.
The launch was conducted outdoors at Auckland’s Western Springs Stadium and, undeterred by a flash thunderstorm, guests were able to witness firsthand, the remarkable power, pattern control and near field response of L-ACOUSTICS products including V-DOSC, dV-DOSC, ARCS, and SB218s.
Peter Ratcliffe and Wyn Milsom of Jands attended the launch and after the demonstration provided guests with an introduction to WaveFront Sculpture Technology (WST).
“As the Network Rental Partner for Australia and New Zealand we are very pleased to be working with College Hill,” says Peter Ratcliffe, of Jands. “They are a very professional company who have committed considerable resources to bring L-ACOUSTICS technology to New Zealand and to have their staff trained in it’s operation”.

Man From Snowy River Arena Spectacular tours dV-DOSC

Man From Snowy RiverWith Roadshow Entertainment, in conjunction with Jacobsen Entertainment, recently releasing ‘The Man From Snowy River Arena Spectacular’ on DVD here are some images and brief info on the Jands Production Services sound system used for the event.
The Man From Snowy River Arena Spectacular was a musical, a rock concert, a rodeo and an arena spectacular like no other. Based on the legendary Banjo Patterson poem and inspired by the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Jands Production Services was hired to design and provide a sound system and operators/crew to meet the challenge of the this large scale technically sophisticated production.
The ‘Man From Snowy River’ Arena Spectacular showcased, for the first time in Australia, the L-ACOUSTICS dV-DOSC and dV-SUB System. The Production toured Australian arenas for a period of 8 weeks visting five major Cities.
The Production received great reviews and the dV-DOSC System provided excellent sound coverage. The system was configured ‘in the round’ using four arrays. Each array consisted of 9 dV-DOSC and 2 dV-SUBs. Flown behind each cluster were JPS flying amp racks containing Crown MA5002’s.

16th Annual ARIA 2002

ARIA 2002 Last year’s ARIA Awards was the first time the event was held at the Sydney Superdome. That meant, with an audience of some 10,000 people and the largest ARIA set to date, excellent audio coverage would be required.
An L-ACOUSTICS V-DOSC System, complete with dV-DOSC boxes used as downfill and ARCS flown as side clusters, were used by Jands Production Services and its crew to complete the task. Live performances at the Awards featured Silverchair, Taxiride, Grinspoon, Kasey Chambers, Holly Valance, Disco Montego featuring Katie Underwood, George, Selwyn, 1200 Techniques & Take your pick.

Kylie tours with V-DOSC

Kylie“AT caught up with Kylie’s Australian FOH engineer, Chris Pyne during the final dress rehearsal before the tour kicked off in Australia. Chris has been Kylie’s ‘sound guy’ for a good number of years now (just take a look back at Issue 3 to read Trevor Cronin’s interview with Chris on the last Kylie tour), and has happily ridden the wave of grown euphoria that has surrounded Kylie’s global success. In no time, 800-seat club dates have been replaced by 18,000-seat arena gigs and an upcoming US festival tour will no doubt ratchet up the worldwide excitement even further.”

Big Day Out '03“This new i4 system is amazing. For years and years we used the Clair S4 system, which was great in its own way. It had a lot of punch but the highs didn’t project like they could have. Meanwhile, the bottom end of the i4 is much cleaner, much tighter than the S4. It’s quite amazing how the high end projects – everyone in the house is getting top quality sound.”
